I’m here to give you the secret to my over 100 lb weight-loss, and to be honest it is not a confidential calorie counting top secret, fad diet, or some brilliant detox tea. No surgery, pills, gimmick, or selling dreams here. No quick fix! There is no such thing as a quick fix. It’s not quick and it does not fix anything.
However, it is the 4 ways I stay motivated and focused on my health journey. In the very beginning, it was these 4 ways and nothing has changed between then and now.
Actually you will be shocked because the 4 things you walk away with after reading this post has nothing to do with food, but when I was on the verge of quitting and falling into the miserable start and stop cycle it was these 4 ways that allowed me to rise above all the opposition in my health journey.
So you are probably saying, go ahead and get to the point lady. Spill the tea!
These are the 4 ways that keep me focused and motivated on my health journey.
1. START WHERE YOU ARE!
6 years ago, I was overwhelmed with what I could not do. This was a recipe for disaster. Overwhelmed=Burnout! If you feel that a workout is too much for you, DO NOT GIVE UP!! Figure out a way that is best for you. This is your journey and you do not have to answer to anyone for doing what’s best for you. In the beginning I modified my push ups and pull ups. Girl push-ups saved my life! Work your way up. Rome was not built-in a day, and you’re a lot less prone to injury when you operate at you own pace. Be enthusiastic about what you can do, and be patient about what you can not do. It offers you a chance to grow, and there is no shame in that.
2. STRUGGLE IS NECESSARY FOR GROWTH!
For whatever reason prior to knee surgery (meniscus tear), my right knee will not let me be great at times, but I never allowed that to give me an opportunity to make an excuse to stop. Excuses are not really good reasons to stop, they are only how we justify not working hard for what we want. I train hard for 60 minutes no matter what. I show up and get it done. At the first sign of pain you can not give up. I know you have heard the phrase, “Pain is weakness leaving the body”. If you don’t work at it you will never get better. Prepare for struggle, and get rid of excuses.
3. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH PEOPLE WHO MOTIVATE AND CHALLENGE YOU!
Hands down, my Hubby is the best workout bestie that anyone could ever have (that’s a lot of best lol), not to mention he is super hard on me (and it works my nerves). He will never let me quit, pout, or complain. If I say something hurt, “You gone be aight” is all i get. No mercy, whatsoever! He smiles and encourage me saying, you can do it, you got this, you are a beast and though I feel like quitting, I woman up! It is always his encouraging words that give me life to finish my workout.
Fitness is work, and having a toxic support system is no support at all. Find you a workout bestie that loves to see you thrive and encourage you to finish your workouts.
4. NEVER CRITICIZE, BUT CELEBRATE YOUR WORKOUTS!
I workout because I love my body not because I hate it. There was a time when I was not capable of doing a lot in the gym. I was a few pounds shy of 350 lbs, my legs were swollen from standing up on concrete serving at O’ Charleys and Red Lobster. My workouts were very simple. I remember it like it was yesterday. Treadmill at 2.5 pace for 30 minutes. This is why I am very humble when it comes to my fitness level.
Never compare. Celebrate!! Always choose to focus on what you can do. Eventually those little things add up to big things. You will always be able to add things that seem to be impossible before. Whatever you say will manifest. So speak uplifting words to yourself and about yourself.
Your beautiful struggle is created so that you can teach others how to embrace fitness, body positivity, good health, and etc. Never in a million years did I believe that I would be a fitness instructor pushing others to live healthy and to embrace fitness regardless of size.
Even if fitness is not your thing, whatever your struggle is I guarantee if you take these 4 ways and implement them into your everyday life things will get better, you will see progress, and your testimony will help change lives. Don’t believe me… Just try it!
