The best weather for a girl’s trip in the South is upon us. Hello, dreamy weather and peach mimosas. While I have been dipping my manicured toes into some regional travel. It never dawned upon me to be a tourist in my own city. If you are looking for a new place to travel that’s drivable (close to Northeastern Mississippi) with lots of great food, consider a weekend trip to Tupelo, which is snuggled up against Memphis, TN and about 144 miles from Huntsville, Alabama. Continue to see full visual story along with Tupelo Girlfriend’s Getaway.
With a population that swells by 300% daily, Tupelo is emblematic of what a big small city in the South looks like. This dynamic southern city serves as a regional hub for the area. Anchored by Elvis Presley and the 444-mile historic Natchez Trace Parkway Headquarters, the landscape is encompass hills, river lowlands, with a downtown scenery that is out of this world.
I invited my friends Faith & Bianca to tour the city of Tupelo with me. Bianca drove down from Memphis, TN. Faith drove down from Little Rock, AR. These girls got a chance to live like local for a weekend. We enjoyed everything: local eateries, museums, small shops and more. Come along while I give you a peak into our Tupelo Girlfriend’s Getaway!
Tupelo Girlfriend’s Getaway Day One
Hotel Tupelo
Everyone arrived at Tupelo’s newest boutique hotel, Hotel Tupelo at noon. This hotel has a big city feel with quite a bit of local flavor. There are various local businesses such as Tupelo River, Midnight Pottery, and more that provides amenities for the hotel. Hotel Tupelo brings the very best of what makes up this city, small businesses.
Here is a quick peak into Hotel Tupelo.
Noon At Farmhouse
Food is such an amazing source of comfort and nourishment. With that in mind, Tupelo has become an incredibly popular food destination. Local chefs are constantly raising the bar with style and creativity in the kitchen. Tupelo has the taste of tomorrow with newer cuisines that are growing trends everywhere.
We ate lunch at a new local favorite, Noon At Farmhouse. Noon At Farmhouse’s motto is “Fresh, Food Fast”. Noon serves a variety of Asian Fusion cuisines with vegan and gluten-free options. Please do not forget macaroons. The macaroons at Noon are delicious.
I ordered the Tupelo Stir Bowl, pictured first in the gallery. The Tupelo Stir Bowl is lomein, an egg over easy, red cabbage, carrots, yakisoba sauce, and sesame seeds.
Foodie’s this one is for you! It’s delicious!
Elvis Presley Birthplace & Museum
Next, we headed over to Elvis Presley Birthplace and Museum. I’m honored to say I live extremely close to the where the King of Rock & Roll was born. The house with the swing on the porch was built by Elvis father, Vernon with $180. You can see that Elvis came from very humble beginnings. The house was only two rooms (the bedroom and the kitchen pictured above). This is one of the most significant landmarks in Tupelo. Over 50,000 visitors each year come from all parts of the world to Elvis Presley Park.
Queen’s Reward Meadery
I had never heard of Mead in my life, crazy right. But this place is one that I will never forget. Queen’s Reward Meadery is proud to be the first meadery in Mississippi. If you are wondering what is Mead, don’t feel bad. I was the exact same way. Mead is a fermented beverage made of honey, water, and yeast. It’s often referred to as honey wine and it is delicious. We got a chance to see the process of creating Mead with the owner of Queens Reward, Jeri Carter. We tried dry mead, mead slushes, sweet mead, and more flavors. Faith and Bianca mentioned, how Queen’s Reward was one of their favorite places in Tupelo.
Style Notes: This dress I’m wearing is from Walmart. I paired it with a Gucci Belt and Yellow Amazon Mules and it was giving high low luxe.
Park Heights
Lastly, for dinner we ate in the Fairpark District at Park Heights. Park Heights offers a menu of modern American cuisine. The modern design and sophisticated ambiance, provides an atmosphere of elegance and sophistication. I enjoyed the Calamari as an appetizer with Pan Seared Salmon. I finished off my entree with the Crème Brulée Cheesecake for dessert. We got a change to enjoy the rooftop patio view of downtown. It was beautiful!
