When you think of online bullying you generally think of teenagers and kiddos who are new to social media, but I’ve come to shed some light on this subject. Online bullying is not only an adolescent problem and I’m speaking from pure experience.
It happened to me. I was bullied online, by the very community that I stand up for and try to be an inspiration too.
Last week, The internet went crazy when Lane Bryant posted my ultraviolet look in NYC during New York Fashion Week. Check it out below.
Did you read a couple of the comments? If not take the time to do so.
The comments were indecent and flat out rude. Many commented that the look was not flattering, but who said I was going for flattery. I’m a plus size woman who loves to tuck her shirt in.
Am I suppose to wait on my body to change before I wear my shirt tucked?
Or dress me, according to what society says is flattering?
I love myself exactly where I am and I don’t need anyone’s permission to step outside of the fashion box. I tucked my shirt again check me out!!
You wouldn’t believe where I picked up this blazer. Walmart!!! It’s a part of the Time and Tru collection. Here is a similar style, because this one is sold completely out. A plaid blazer for fall is essential. The royal blue pencil skirt is a closet staple of mine and I picked it up years ago at my local Lane Bryant (similar). These are my favorite royal blue shoes and they remind me so much of Carrie’s “Manolo’s” that Mr. Big proposed with (please tell me you have Carrie fever or at least a SITC fan).
I’m happy that I have internet friends that I can turn to when things go crazy. These are my blogger boos Faith and Bee, and together we are Southern Curve Collective. Click the links and check out how they styled their plaid! This month we will be bringing you so many slays, so stay on the lookout!
I’m secure in my self-worth and value. It could have affected me negatively. However, it only revealed my growth and manifested my power.
My answer with how to deal with online bullying as an adult is don’t respond. Do not retaliate. You do not want to be part of the problem. Plus, YOU NOT GOING BACK AND FORTH (you know the rest)!!
Lane Bryant backed me up in every comment and sent me flowers the next day to encourage me to continue to share inspiring style. This warmed my heart so much!
I would love for you to share some of your experiences with online bullying. Leave a comment! Know that you are not alone! Stay strong and do not retaliate!!
