I must admit that wearing an outfit twice on Instagram was a big “no-no” until I started losing weight. Don’t get me wrong I think outfit repeating is ok. When creating the bomb look chances are big that I will wear it again just not in a picture. If we are friends you will not judge me.
I’m always very transparent about my health journey and when I started my weight loss journey things changed big time. In fact, I had a capsule wardrobe that saved my life and my pocket while in between sizes. With major brands pushing new trends and consumerism at an all-time high, we must stay focused and understand that although pieces may be a bit oversized we can be creative and make them work to save a few coins. I have maintained over 100-pound weight loss over the past 7 years and I have a few tips that will help you recreate and save a few items in your closet while losing weight.
1. Everything Belted Will Work
Dusters, cardigans, tunics, if it comes with a belt keep it. Belts define your waist and are easy to adjust if you lose a few inches.
2. Oversized Is Not Always Bad
Do you have any tops that are oversized now that you have slimmed up a bit? Go back to numero uno and, Add a belt! If it’s a graphic tee shirt that is oversized and you are thinking about trashing it, cut the neck and show a little shoulder, belt it, and watch it work!
3. Prints That You Can Re”MIX”
If you only have a few pieces that work. Try mixing prints and stepping out the norm a bit to keep from wearing the same outfit repeatedly. For example, I have this denim jumpsuit. My husband always says that he is going to burn it because I wear it so much. Now my goal is to wear it without him noticing it’s the same piece. I may layer it with a denim shirt on top or a turtleneck under it. Add different washes of denim to it with accessories. We do not have to always put the same items that “match” together. We are not cartoon characters. Spice it up a bit.
4. The Skirt, Maam
You probably would never notice if I did not mention it but this tulle skirt from Society Plus is an older peice in my closet, but it’s one of those pieces that work when my figure is fluctuating up or down. And rocking this “Flaunt The Polka Dot Jacket/Duster” from Fashionnova proves that prints are not always grandma looking, non-flattering, and ugly. “Where are the lies”??

I always was annoyed to the max when trying to find the perfect jeans in between sizes. This caused me to upgrade my skirt game. Skirts a lot of times are more affordable than jeans and if you drop 20 pounds they generally will fit the same especially pencil skirts, wrap skirts, and tulle skirts. It takes a lot for me to wear a skirt these days because for 5 years straight that is all I could wear (that’s another story for a later date), but while on my weight loss journey they became my BFF again. If you do not want to buy jeans every size your down then you may want to hang on to that skirt a while longer.
