A few weeks back I was able to attend the fourth annual The CURVY Con convention, and it was epic and then some. I was in NYC celebrating women, curves, and of course fashion with The CURVY Con happening during NYFW. Every panel, fashion show, shopping event, and conversations were inspiring and filled with positive vibes.
It gave me all the feels! If you are the only plus size friend in your circle, the only plus size fashion lover in your family, the only plus size fitness lover you should have been here. Every curvy girl should experience The Curvy Con at least once in their lifetime, and I’m here to tell you why!
Let the world tell it… Plus size women just don’t! We don’t fall in love, we don’t work out, we don’t feel confident, we don’t love ourselves and The Curvy Con bring down barriers and bust these myths one by one. Finally, In 2018 a place where curvies can come and be inspired and leave knowing that their curves have power.
The Curvy Con kicked off with a fitness event that busted everyone out of their comfort zones. Especially me, I was excited to do the Instagram Takeover for this event. Plus size dancers are on the rise. And by now you know this is what I’m passionate about! I had an amazing time with learning some of the Queen’s choreo with Beyonce Dancers, Jore and Amari. Thank God I was there because my FOMO would have not let me live, had I missed this moment. Jessie Diaz of “Curves With Moves” gave us all the body positive love with wonderful stretches that included affirmations about self-love. Imagine warming up for your workout with kind words. You can try it, say “I love my legs” “I love my legs” “I love all of me”.
Not everyone is an hourglass or 5’8 and Loft totally understood that with their fashion show including more beautiful bodies. Their styles were for everyone and all of the women looked gorgeous. Finally, respect for all the plus size women.
Dia and Co announced their new tee up change campaign and all I could say was Venus!!! NIGHT MADE!
Saturday was a day full of shopping, networking, and pictures. The Curvy Con hosted panels featuring plus size bloggers, designers, and celebrities; such as Venus Williams, Gabi Sibide, Joy Nash, Lizzo, and so many more discussing everything from learning how to use your voice, fashion, size inclusivity, and how to live a more confident life.
For the first time ever, The Curvy Con introduced workshops. It was so much fun to have an open space to receive inspiration and transparency from the speakers. It was like having a private chat with your homegirls. They were so necessary and informative! The Curvy Con really leveled up!
The keynote speaker for this year was Gabby Sidibe. Her story inspired me to continue to be consistent on this blogging journey and to know that everything happens for a reason. Gabby harped on her crossing the street in her story! She was asked how did she get into acting and she constantly emphasized she crossed the street. She had to cross the street and while crossing the street an audition was being held for “Precious” and with nothing else on her agenda she walked in and gave it a shot! You want to know what I got out of all of that! Just go for it!
For those of you wondering what I wore while in NYC for The Curvy Con and NYFW, my Friday outfit featured the Studded and Embroidered Faux Leather Moto Jacket with Ultimate Stretch Skinny Jean. My Saturday outfit featured Lace Mock Neck Top and Allie Tailored Stretch Wide Leg Pant from Lane Bryant.
Rock biker chic and alluringly sophisticated was the vibe! NYC owes me nothing!
