Do you feel like you are bad at self-discipline? When your friends are mastering plant-based diets and financial budgets, do you wonder how in the world is this possible?
Self-discipline is not something we are born with. It’s a ritual. Which means it takes time and consistency. You may feel like you do not have the time or the energy to make it happen. This means you may talk yourself out of it before putting forth the effort.
A few days ago, I had to be honest with myself. I was evolving into this extremely unorganized person that was not as disciplined as my former self. Whoever this unorganized person that was claiming my life had me extremely lethargic. I was feeling like there were not enough hours in the day, frustrated, and depleted and it was nobody’s fault but mine.
I’m sharing some habits that are helping me get back to the basics. Keep reading so that you don’t miss a thing.
The 5 Key Habits Of Self-Discipline
[Tweet "5 Habits You Need To Build Self-Discipline"]
I believe that there are 5 keys to mastering yourself. If you are feeling more distracted than usual, it’s because you have lost focus and neglected these elements.
The 5 Key Habits Are:
- Clear Vision & Execution
- Perception
- Boundaries
- Implementation Intention
- Remove Distractions
How I’m Cultivating These Habits
Clear Vision & Execution
I love creating, but one thing I forget is that I can only do one thing at a time. My mom says, “You are being a jack of all trades, but a master of none”. Meaning you can’t master anything when you are all over the place. To be disciplined you must know what you want or you will walk around aimlessly. So what has helped me is that I know exactly what I want now! My eyes are on it!

Perception Is Everything
Perception is how you create your reality. Your willpower has everything to do with your perception. The amount of discipline you have is determined by what you believe. On days that I say that I can’t do a thing, I don’t do a thing! Them negative affirmations will get you everything. Are you watching your words, sweathearts?
Boundaries
Consider what type of behavior you will and will not tolerate in your life. No one else is going to take control and do this for you. Decide how much time you are going to spend with others, family, and friends. So that when unexpected things come up you can politely decline. Social media has made us so available, it’s ok not to respond right away.

Remove Distractions & Temptations
For me, eating a lot of processed foods make me feel sluggish. This keeps me distracted because I’m not as productive. Late night Instagram strolls when I should be taking care of my body and getting rest is a “NO”! Do whatever you can by removing temptation. You keep control!
Implementation Intention
Be proactive! Think “IF‘ and “THEN” for example, “IF”I attend an office party and someone asks do I want a soda, “THEN” I will say no because I’ve decided to drink only water for the month of May. Practicing control by going over things before they happen. Implementation Intention is so powerful because it helps you to maintain focus.
